Dr. Akhilesh’s Expertise and EIHF & MCKS Trust Fund Gave Daily Wager a New Life

A 24-year-old technical worker got a second chance in life with the help of Dr. Akhilesh’s expertise in reconstructive surgery and the humanitarian grounds of the Eastern India Healthcare Foundation (EIHF) and the MCKS Trust Fund. Mr. Biplab Samanta, a 24-year-old technical worker and the only earning member, met with a severe accident on 6th November 2022. The accident resulted in the amputation of all the fingers on different levels of his right hand. Although they had consulted numerous hospitals, the only solution they got from there was to amputate Mr. Samanta’s hand from the wrist to prevent infection. But it’s not an ideal decision for the family.

To save his hand, Mr. Samanta’s family brought him to Medica Hospital’s emergency ward around 5 PM. Amputation surgery was the second thing they were worried about; the family was highly traumatized about the medical bills and surgery expenses. They had no clue where to get the funds, and neither did they have any medical insurance cards to cover the expenses. The surgery team was running out of time, and in such a scenario, the Eastern India Healthcare Foundation (EIHF) and the MCKS Trust Fund, Bangalore, came as a ray of hope. The funds were raised, and the treatment’s entire cost was waived off.

The next challenge is to perform surgery to restore mobility of the hand. The complicated surgery started at 7 PM and was managed by Dr. Akhilesh Agarwal, Senior Consultant & Reconstructive Surgeon at Medica Hospital, and his team. The surgery was highly complicated as the structures of all fingers had to be reconstructed.

Dr. Akhilesh Agarwal stated, “This is the remarkable reconstructive surgery I have experienced in my practice. Not only the surgery, the financial part was also a challenge. But with the help of EIHF and the MCKS Trust Fund, we had easily overcome everything. After the reconstructive surgery, it’s obvious to perform some corrective surgery to restore proper mobility. It is our responsibility to save a person’s life before considering personal benefits, and for that reason I have decided not to charge for this surgery on humanitarian grounds.”

After 8 days of evaluation post-surgery, the patient was satisfiedly discharged and gradually got back to his normal life. The entire surgical process was the epitome of humanity and the resilience of our healthcare providers. The case also set benchmark of excellence and patient care in Dr. Akhilesh’s practice.
