A 4-year-old boy’s life changed after a severe accident while playing with a kitchen knife. His right index finger was completely severed. Thanks to the quick actions of his parents and expert care at Peerless Hospital, the boy’s finger was successfully reattached.
The surgery was led by Dr. Akhilesh Agarwal, a skilled plastic surgeon. The boy’s parents quickly retrieved the finger, cleaned it, and stored it in a cool, sterile environment. This simple step increased the chances of a successful surgery.
Upon reaching the hospital, the child was rushed into emergency surgery. The operation lasted several hours and required extreme precision. Dr. Akhilesh Agarwal repaired the tiny finger’s bones, tendons, blood vessels, and nerves. He reconnected blood vessels as small as 1 millimeter, restoring blood flow to the finger.

Dr. Akhilesh Agarwal said, “In such cases, every minute matters. The faster we restore blood circulation, the higher the chance of success. Proper handling of the severed part is also crucial. It should be cleaned, placed in a plastic bag, and kept on ice.”
After the surgery, the boy was closely monitored by the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) team, led by Dr. Saheli Dasgupta. The team ensured proper blood flow and prevented complications like infection.
The recovery has been smooth so far. Within weeks, the child began to regain feeling and movement in the finger. Dr. Agarwal believes the boy will recover most of the finger’s function after physical therapy. He said, “Children heal and adapt quickly. We are optimistic about his recovery.”
The boy’s parents expressed their gratitude, saying, “We are so thankful to the doctors and nurses at Peerless Hospital. Their skill and care saved our son’s finger.”
This successful surgery is a testament to the advancements in modern medicine. It also shows the importance of skilled doctors like Dr. Akhilesh Agarwal and quick action in emergencies.
